RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE
About RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE
RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE is a combination medicine of proton pump inhibitor and prokinetic agent used to lower the increased level of stomach acid. It treats GERD (gastro-oesophagal reflux disease), and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the intestine and stomach.
RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE is a combination of two drugs: Rabeprazole and Itopride. Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump, which is responsible for acid production. It minimizes the release of acid from the stomach, which provides relief from heartburn and acid-related digestion. While Itopride works on the part of the brain that is responsible for controlling vomiting. It increases gastric emp undying improves gastric sensitivity and tension by increasing the stomach's movement and intestines in the upper digestive tract. It also has anti-emetic action. Together, RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE helps prevent acid reflux, thereby relieving acidity.
Take RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE 30-60 minutes before food. Do not chew or break the tablet; swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. You are advised to take RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects such as headache, nausea, stomach pain, dizziness, and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Inform your doctor before taking RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical perforation/obstruction, or movement disorder. On long-term treatment, RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE may cause osteoporosis and hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium). Do not take RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by the doctor. RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE causes drowsiness, so drive only if you are alert. RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE should not be given to children as safety has not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol with RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE as it can lead to increased drowsiness and increased acid production.

Disease/Condition Glossary
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, the mucous layer gets eroded due to excess acid production, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, a sour or bitter taste, and difficulty swallowing. Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the stomach and intestine lining due to erosion of the stomach's protective lining. Symptoms include nausea, changes in appetite, bloody or dark stools, unexplained weight loss, vomiting, and indigestion.

Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better even after taking RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE for 14 days. Do not take RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor.
Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE. Drink enough fluids and eat fibre-rich food if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in your stools (tarry stools) or if you experience excess diarrhoea, consult your doctor. Do not take anti-diarrheal medicine on your own.
Avoid or limit the consumption of alcohol while taking RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE as it may lead to increased dizziness. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increasing acidity and heartburn.
Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Raise the head of the bed 10-20cm by putting a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This helps in preventing acid reflux.
RABEPRAZOLE+ITOPRIDE contains lactose monohydrate, so a person who is intolerant to sugar should tell their doctor before taking this medicine.
