RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE
About RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE
RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE belongs to a group of gastrointestinal agents used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It is also used to treat acidity, indigestion, heartburn and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (esophagus); this causes acidity and heartburn. Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the intestine and stomach.
RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE is a combination of two drugs: Rabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Mosapride (prokinetic agent). Rabeprazole works by blocking an enzyme called the gastric proton pump, which is responsible for acid production. Mosapride works by accelerating the gastric emptying time, increasing the food pipe, intestine, and stomach's movement. It also increases the inferior oesophageal (food pipe) sphincter pressure, thereby preventing the backflow of food and acid into the mouth. Together, RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE helps prevent acid reflux, thereby providing relief from dyspepsia (indigestion and abdominal pain), acidity, and heartburn.
Take RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE as prescribed. You are advised to take RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, flatulence, headache, dizziness, weakness, sleepiness, and flu-like symptoms. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Inform your doctor before taking RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or intestinal obstruction. On long-term treatment, RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE may cause osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, spine, and hypomagnesemia (low magnesium levels). Do not take RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by the doctor. RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE should not be given to children as safety has not been established. RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE may cause drowsiness and dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Avoid consuming alcohol and RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE as it could lead to increased drowsiness and elevate stomach acid production.

Medicinal Benefits
RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE belongs to a group of gastrointestinal agents used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Mosapride works by accelerating the gastric emptying time, increasing the food pipe, intestine, and stomach movement. It also increases the inferior oesophageal (food pipe) sphincter pressure, thereby preventing the backflow of food and acid into the mouth. Besides this, it also facilitates the intestine's movement, thereby increasing the frequency of bowel movements, softening stools, and reducing abdominal discomfort and pain. Mosapride enhanced the acid-inhibitory effect of PPIs such as Rabeprazole. Collectively, RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE helps prevent acid reflux, thereby providing relief from acidity, heartburn, and dyspepsia (indigestion and abdominal pain).

Disease/Condition Glossary
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like GERD, acidity, heartburn and peptic ulcers. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn and acidity. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing.
FAQs
RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE contains Rabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and Mosapride (prokinetic agent). Rabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called gastric proton pump responsible for stomach acid production. Mosapride works by increasing the inferior oesophageal (food pipe) sphincter pressure, thereby preventing the backflow of food and acid towards the food pipe or mouth. Together, RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE helps in preventing acid reflux, thereby provides relief from acidity.
Do not take RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. Talk to your doctor if you do not find symptomatic relief. The doctor may monitor your condition regularly if you are on long term treatment with RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE.
Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acid reflux. Raise the head of the bed 10-20 cm by putting a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This helps in preventing acid reflux.
RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE contains rabeprazole which might increase the risk of fracture in the wrist, hip or spine. This mainly occurs in people taking RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE for longer durations. Prolonged use of RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE may cause low magnesium level in your bones. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or taking corticosteroids, your doctor may prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplements.
Dry mouth could be a side-effect of RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE. Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes containing alcohol, drinking water regularly and chewing sugar-free gum/candy might help in stimulating saliva and thereby prevents drying of the mouth.
Do not discontinue RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE without consulting your doctor. To treat your condition effectually continue taking RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE for as long as prescribed. Do not be reluctant to speak with your doctor if you feel any difficulty while taking RABEPRAZOLE+MOSAPRIDE.
