NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN
About NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN
NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN belongs to the group of medications called ‘antihypertensives’ primarily used in the treatment of hypertension. Hypertension or high blood pressure is a chronic (long-term) condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently at higher than normal levels. If left untreated, this condition can increase the risk of heart-related diseases like heart attack, heart failure, stroke, irregular heartbeat and other complications.
NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN contains Nebivolol and Valsartan. Nebivolol is a beta-blocker. It works specifically on the heart to reduce heart rate and lower blood pressure making it easier for the heart to pump blood to all parts of the body. Valsartan is an angiotensin-II receptor blocker (ARB). Angiotensin narrows the blood vessels increasing the blood pressure, therefore, blocking angiotensin can result in widening of the narrowed blood vessels. Together, NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN can effectively treat hypertension or high blood pressure.
You should take this medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The common side-effects of NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN are nausea, vomiting, bradycardia (slow heartbeats), dizziness, hypotension (low blood pressure), hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood) and elevated liver enzymes. Inform your doctor immediately if any of these side-effects persist or get worse.
It is not recommended to take NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN if you are allergic to any contents of it. It is also not recommended for patients with ‘sick sinus syndrome’ (unless you have a pacemaker), heart block, severe heart failure, severe liver disease and history of bradycardia (slow heartbeat) that have resulted in fainting. NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN should not be used in children and adolescents below 18 years of age, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. It should be used with caution in elderly people. Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase the risk of side-effects. NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN may cause dizziness, so avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel dizzy.
Uses of NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN
Medicinal Benefits
NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN contains ‘Nebivolol’ and ‘Valsartan’ which is a fixed-dose combination used to treat hypertension in adults. It works by lowering the body’s production of substances that could increase heart rate and also widens narrowed blood vessels. It allows the blood to flow more smoothly in the blood vessels. It shows greater efficacy and tolerability when compared to monotherapies. It helps to reduce serious complications of hypertension such as heart attack, stroke and end-stage kidney disease.

Disease/Condition Glossary
Hypertension: It is a chronic (long-term) condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently at higher than normal levels. It occurs when the blood’s force against the wall of blood vessels is too high. This condition can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when blood supply to the heart is blocked). Additionally, high blood pressure also causes damage to the brain, kidneys and eyes. The risk of high blood pressure complications increases with the following: obesity, smoking, diabetes, alcohol intake, lack of physical inactivity, stress and kidney diseases.

NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN should not be taken along with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as diclofenac or ibuprofen as it can lower the effect of NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN. In addition, if these medicines are used together frequently or for longer durations, it may affect kidney function. So, it is advised to consult your doctor before using any other medicines while taking NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN.
Please inform your doctor before undergoing surgery or even any dental procedures (that requires taking anesthesia) if you are taking NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN as it needs to be stopped. NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN might lower the blood pressure further if taken along with general anesthesia.
NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN is usually safe even it is taken for prolonged periods or as long as your doctor has prescribed it to you. However, please discuss with your doctor for further information/advice.
NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN is probably safe when used for hypertension in diabetic patients. However, in cases such as diabetes with end-organ damage (damage to the major organs such as heart, kidney, brain and eyes), NEBIVOLOL+VALSARTAN is not recommended as it can result in kidney failure.
