Terbinafine+mometasone

About Terbinafine+mometasone

Mometasone+terbinafine is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat fungal skin infections. It is used to treat various skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, jock itch, dermatitis (itchy, dry skin or rash), and tinea versicolor (lightening or darkening of the skin of the neck, chest, and arms, or legs). Eczema is a skin condition associated with inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough skin patches. Psoriasis is a disease in which skin cells multiply rapidly to form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales. Fungal infection occurs when a fungus invades and affects the tissue on the skin.

Mometasone+terbinafine is composed of two medicines: Mometasone (corticosteroid) and Terbinafine (antifungal). Mometasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. Corticosteroids have anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and antiproliferative (inhibit cell growth) properties. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen, and itchy. Mometasone effectively treats inflammation and itchiness caused by eczema and psoriasis. On the other hand, Terbinafine is an antifungal medication that treats fungal infections, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane (a compound present in the fungi to maintain cell integrity) and resulting in fungal cell death.

Mometasone+terbinafine is available in the form of cream, gel, and lotion. Your doctor will advise the appropriate dose that suits your infection. Mometasone+terbinafine has common side effects like skin peeling, itching, irritation, dryness, redness, and burning sensation at the application site. These side effects usually go away during the treatment. Tell your doctor if you face any side effects like skin rash, headache, swelling, thinning, nausea, and vomiting after using Mometasone+terbinafine.

Mometasone+terbinafine is for topical (for skin) use only. Let your doctor know if you have allergic reactions to Mometasone, Terbinafine, or other medications. If you are using any other prescription, non-prescription drugs, herbal, or vitamin supplements, please inform your doctor before using Mometasone+terbinafine. Do not use Mometasone+terbinafine on sensitive areas like nostrils, ears, lips, or genitals. Avoid dressing the infected areas after applying Mometasone+terbinafine unless the doctor advised you to do so. Using steroids in pregnancy or breastfeeding may increase the risk of low birth weight in the newborn baby. Hence, Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Mometasone+terbinafine. Mometasone+terbinafine is not approved for use in children below 12 years of age.
