Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium belongs to ophthalmic eye medications primarily used to treat bacterial eye infections and reduce swelling, itching, and redness. Conjunctivitis (pink eye) is a common bacterial eye infection associated with the inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva (white part of the eye) and the inner eyelid.
Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium is a combination of three drugs, namely: Fluorometholone (corticosteroid), Tobramycin (antibiotic), and Benzalkonium (preservative). Fluorometholone belongs to steroids that work by inhibiting the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching, and swelling. Thereby, reduces the redness and swelling caused due to bacterial infections. Tobramycin belongs to the class of antibiotics that works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply and increase in numbers. Thereby, it destroys bacteria. Benzalkonium acts as a preservative.
Use Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium as prescribed by your doctor. Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium is only for use in eyes. You are advised to use Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience eye irritation, eye redness, itchy or swollen eyelids, mild burning or stinging sensation in the eye, or eye discomfort. Most of these side effects of Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium is not recommended for children below 1 year of age. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before using Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium. You are not recommended to wear contact lenses while using Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium as it contains benzalkonium chloride, a preservative that changes the color of the contact lens as it may be absorbed by soft contact lens. Benzalkonium chloride also causes irritation in the eye especially if you have disorders of the cornea (transparent layer at the front of the eye) or dry eyes. Therefore, you are advised to remove contact lenses before applying Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium and reinsert after 15 minutes of using Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium. Also, inform your doctor if you experience pain, stinging, or abnormal sensation in the eye after using Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium.
Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium may cause temporary blurred vision immediately after applying. Therefore, you are recommended to wait until your vision is clear before driving or operating machinery.
You are recommended to maintain a time gap of a minimum of 5 minutes between using Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium and other eye drops. However, please consult a doctor before using other medicines with Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium.
Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium is not used to treat fungal infection in the eye. Fluorometholone+tobramycin+benzalkonium is only used to treat bacterial eye infections.
