Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet

Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called photosensitizers. It is used along with ultraviolet light for the treatment of vitiligo. Vitiligo is a skin condition in which the skin loses colour (melanocytes). This can result in discoloured patches in different areas of the body, including the skin, hair, and mucous membranes.

Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet contains “trioxsalen”, which is a photosensitive medication used along with UV-A rays. It works by activating certain skin cells (melanocytes) and helps to re-pigment the discoloured and white patches.

Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet should be taken as advised by your physician. The dose and course of this medicine will be decided by your doctor based on your health condition. Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet may cause certain common side effects like erythema (skin redness), blisters on the skin, edema (swelling), and itching. These side effects resolve on their own. However, if it persists, stop using Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet and consult your physician.

Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet should not be taken if you are allergic to it. Inform to your physician if you are using any medicines other than Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet and if you are pregnant/breastfeeding. Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet should be used with caution in patients who are allergic to sunlight, porphyria, heart/ liver disease, stomach problems, cataracts, skin cancers and lupus erythematosus condition.

Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet is also used with caution in recent treatment with x-rays or cancer medicines or plans to have x-rays in the near future as it may increase your chance of skin cancer.

• Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet may cause vision problems, so periodically consult your eye physician.
• Soralen-Ds 25 Tablet may be taken 2 to 4 hours before exposure to UV light. In this case, before each treatment, cover the skin for at least 24 hours, and after each treatment, cover the skin for at least 8 hours by wearing protective clothing. 
• Protect lips and uncovered parts of the body with sunblock medications. Sunblock products (sunscreen lotions) should not be used on the areas of the skin that are to be treated. Use wraparound sunglasses.
