Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup

Do not take Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup if you are allergic to any of its contents, debilitated (very weak). Inform your doctor if you have severe stomach pain, partially or fully blocked bowel, low phosphate levels, high magnesium levels, kidney or liver problems; if you are on a low-phosphate diet. Consult your doctor before taking Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup as it could lead to increased acidity. 

Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup belongs to a group of medicines called antacids used to treat acidity, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), and stomach upset. Gelusil MPS Xtra Cool Syrup is a combination of three drugs: Aluminium hydroxide (antacid), magnesium hydroxide (antacid) and dimethicone (antiflatulent). Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide works by neutralising excess stomach acid. Dimethicone works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitating gas expulsion through flatus or belching (burping). It also prevents accumulation and formation of gas in the digestive tract.

In some cases, you may experience certain common side-effects such as constipation, loss of appetite, weakness and diarrhoea. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.
