About ELION XT TABLET

ELION XT TABLET belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen required to various body tissues. 

ELION XT TABLET is a combination drug containing Iron and Folic acid (haematinics combination) primarily used to treat anaemia. ELION XT TABLET works by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. 

Take ELION XT TABLET as directed by your doctor. You may experience constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Most of these side effects of ELION XT TABLET do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Do not take ELION XT TABLET if you are allergic to ELION XT TABLET, iron, folic acid or any of the ingredients of ELION XT TABLET. Do not start taking any new medication without telling your doctor. ELION XT TABLET is generally given at least 4 weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy. If you have got any part of the stomach removed, please inform your doctor before taking ELION XT TABLET. ELION XT TABLET is given to a child under 12 years of age should be given under strict medical supervision.

ELION XT TABLET is a combination drug containing or 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of red blood cells and haemoglobin). It acts as a supplement in pregnancy as, during pregnancy, the demand for iron and folic acid in the body is increased. It also helps the body produce and maintain new cells and prevents our DNA from mutating, leading to cancer. ELION XT TABLET contains Iron and Folic acid (haematinics combination), which works by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin in the body. Thus, the use of ELION XT TABLET is associated with a reduced risk of iron deficiency and anaemia, especially in pregnant women. 

Directions for Use

Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

Drug Warnings

Do not take ELION XT TABLET if you are allergic to ELION XT TABLET, iron, folic acid, or any of the ingredients of ELION XT TABLET. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, and herbal products. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor. ELION XT TABLET is generally given at least four weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy. Also, if giving ELION XT TABLET to a child, a child specialist's dose will be decided as an overdose of ELION XT TABLET in children can lead to deadly poisoning. If you have got any part of the stomach removed, please inform your doctor before taking ELION XT TABLET. 

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interaction: ELION XT TABLET may interact with medicines used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (penicillamine, sulfasalazine), blood cholesterol (cholestyramine), Parkinson's disease (levodopa, carbidopa), thyroid disease (thyroxine), bone disease (bisphosphonates), certain cancers (aminopterin, methotrexate), malaria (pyrimethamine), Wilson's disease (trientine), antibiotics (cotrimoxazole, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines).

Drug-Food Interaction: ELION XT TABLET should not be taken along with alcohol, dairy products, and eggs as it might affect ELION XT TABLET absorption in the body.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Inform your doctor if you have or ever had a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), anaemia, folate tumour.

  • Increase intake of fruits in your diet, especially fruits which a rich in iron like pomegranate, citrus fruits.
  • ELION XT TABLET can cause dry mouth, so drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated.

Special Advise

  • Avoid taking ELION XT TABLET along with dairy products, coffee, alcohol, and eggs.
  • Constantly monitor your blood iron or hemoglobin level.
