Mucaryl AX Expectorant belongs to the class of medicines called 'expectorants' primarily used to treat cough associated with mucus. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body's way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. There are two types of coughs: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) means mucous or sputum is produced to help clear the airways.
Mucaryl AX Expectorant is a combination of four drugs, namely: Terbutaline Sulphate (bronchodilator), Guaifenesin (expectorant), Ambroxol Hydrochloride (mucolytic agent) and Ammonium chloride (irritant/expectorant). Terbutaline Sulphate relaxes muscles and widens the airways. Guaifenesin and Ambroxol Hydrochloride work by thinning the mucus in the air passages; this makes it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Ammonium chloride decreases airway secretion's stickiness and helps remove it from the airways. Thereby it makes breathing easier.
