Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray belongs to groups of medications called hypocalcemic agents, primarily indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women more than five years postmenopause when alternative therapies are unsuitable. Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray contains Calcitonin, a human hormone that prevents bone breakdown and increases bone density (thickness). Thus it helps to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Calcitonin is a hormone that the C-cells in the thyroid gland produce and release. It opposes the parathyroid hormone's action, helping regulate the blood’s calcium and phosphate levels. Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray works by suppressing the activity of the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone). When the osteoclasts break down bone tissue, the calcium enters the bloodstream. Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray lessens the amount of calcium in the blood by preventing the breakdown of bone. Thereby, Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray strengthens the bones and minimizes the risk of fractures. Minotin 200IU Nasal Spray also seems to decrease the amount of calcium the kidneys can re-absorb, lowering calcium levels further.
