MIF Ointment

MIF Ointment is a dermatological combination medicine used to reduce swelling/inflammation, itching and redness caused due to certain fungal skin infections. Fungal infection is a skin disease in which a fungus attacks the tissue and cause infection. Fungal infections may be contagious (spread from one person to another).

MIF Ointment is a combination of two drugs, namely: Fluocinolone acetonide (corticosteroid) and Miconazole (antifungal). Fluocinolone acetonide belongs to the class of corticosteroids that works by preventing the release of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause redness, itching and swelling. On the other hand, Miconazole belongs to the class of antifungals that works by causing holes in the fungal cell membranes thereby killing the fungi.

MIF Ointment is only for external use. Use MIF Ointment as prescribed. Your doctor will recommend how often you use MIF Ointment based on your medical condition. Avoid contact of MIF Ointment with nose, ears, mouth or eyes. In case MIF Ointment comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Some people may experience dry skin, skin peeling, increased hair growth, pimples, patches of pale skin, itching, irritation or burning sensation at the site of application. Most of these side effects of MIF Ointment do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are known to be allergic to MIF Ointment or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, it is advised to consult a doctor before using MIF Ointment. Do not use MIF Ointment in more than prescribed doses, or for a prolonged time as it may cause adverse effects such as skin thinning, visible small veins or stretch marks.  Avoid using MIF Ointment for more than 5 days in children and on the face. Do not apply MIF Ointment on open wounds, cuts, scrapes or damaged skin. Do not swallow MIF Ointment. In case of accidental swallowing, contact nearby poison control centre or consult a doctor immediately. If you have rosacea (redness and often red, small, pus-filled bumps on the face), acne, perioral dermatitis (red, bumpy rash around the mouth), any skin infection, psoriasis, diabetes, liver or adrenal gland problems, inform your doctor before taking MIF Ointment.
