Livogen Captabs 15's belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) and folic acid deficiency that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells for carrying adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.
Livogen Captabs 15's is a combination of two drugs, namely: Ferrous fumarate (iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). Livogen Captabs 15's works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen.
Take Livogen Captabs 15's as advised by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, stomach pain or a change in the colour of the stool. Most of these side effects of Livogen Captabs 15's do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
If you are allergic to Livogen Captabs 15's or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Livogen Captabs 15's should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Livogen Captabs 15's. If you have an allergy to any sugars, inform your doctor before taking Livogen Captabs 15's as it may contain lactose. If you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or folate-dependent tumour, inform your doctor before taking Livogen Captabs 15's.
