About Heplovir Tablet

Heplovir Tablet belongs to a class of drugs called antivirals used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Heplovir Tablet is used in combination with other medicines. Hepatitis C is a severe liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). It is contagious (spreads from one person to another) and spreads through contact with the infected person’s blood.

Heplovir Tablet contains Ribavirin, an antiviral drug that works by inhibiting the action of viral RNA (genetic material) that is essential for the virus to multiply. Thereby, it stops the virus from making new viruses and helps in reducing the amount of hepatitis C virus in the body.

Take Heplovir Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Heplovir Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience dizziness, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, tiredness, or loss of appetite. Most of these side effects of Heplovir Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Heplovir Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Heplovir Tablet is not recommended for children below 3 years of age. Avoid taking Heplovir Tablet if you are pregnant as it may cause birth defects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult a doctor before taking Heplovir Tablet. It is recommended to use effective contraceptive measures to avoid pregnancy while using Heplovir Tablet and for 7 months after stopping treatment with Heplovir Tablet. If you experience stomach pain, vomiting, or nausea while taking Heplovir Tablet, please consult a doctor immediately as these might be symptoms of a rare but severe side effect known as lactic acidosis (excess of lactic acid in the blood).

Taking didanosine with Heplovir Tablet can increase the blood levels of didanosine. This may increase the risk of severe injury to the pancreas, liver, muscles, and nerves.

Co-administration of Mercaptopurine and Heplovir Tablet may raise the risk of side effects. This can make you more likely to develop anemia(lack of blood), bleeding problems, or infections.
