Disease/Condition Glossary

Joint pain: Joint pain is a physical discomfort that occurs where two or more bones meet. It refers to the discomfort, pain, stiffness and soreness in the joints. Arthritis is a common cause of joint pain. Other reasons include a past injury such as torn cartilage, dislocated joints and ligament injuries. Joint pain occurs when the two ends of the joints come together due to the breakdown of a protective covering called cartilage. Due to the absence of this protective covering, the joints rub against each other, leading to pain and stiffness. Symptoms include pain, stiffness, inflammation and tenderness.
