Diprovate S Plus Cream is a dermatological medication, primarily used to treat eczema and psoriasis. Eczema is a skin condition associated with inflamed, itchy, cracked and rough skin patches. Psoriasis is a skin disease in which skin cells multiply rapidly to form bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales.
Diprovate S Plus Cream is composed of three medicines: Betamethasone (corticosteroid), Salicylic acid (peeling agent), and Zinc oxide (antiseptic and astringent). Betamethasone belongs to the class of corticosteroids. It blocks the production of prostaglandins (chemical messengers) that make the affected area red, swollen and itchy. Betamethasone treats inflammation and itchiness caused by eczema and psoriasis. Salicylic acid is a keratolytic medicine (softens, separates, and causes desquamation (peeling) of the cornified epithelium or horny layer of skin). It increases the amount of moisture in the skin and dissolves the substance that causes the skin cells to stick together. Zinc oxide is a mild antiseptic and astringent (cleanses skin and tightens pores). It works by forming a barrier on the skin to protect it from moisture and irritants.
