Cyptone L Syrup belongs to a group of combination medicines called 'appetite enhancers' used to stimulate the appetite and treat alimentary tract and metabolism problems. Cyptone L Syrup helps treat lack of appetite, weight loss, and anorexia nervosa (an eating disorder with low body weight). Besides this, it is also prescribed for underweight children with inadequate dietary intake, loss of appetite, anaemia, liver/digestive disorder, antiretroviral (anti-HIV drugs) treatment for weight gain, and adjunct to anti-tubercular (anti-TB drugs).

Cyptone L Syrup combines three drugs: Lysine, Cyproheptadine and Peptone. Lysine is a building block of essential proteins which improve appetite and digestion. Cyproheptadine works by reducing the effect of a chemical messenger in the hypothalamus called serotonin, thereby stimulating the appetite. Peptone increases the production of a protein (cholecystokinin) which controls appetite and food intake.

Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Cyptone L Syrup for as long as your doctor prescribes it. Cyptone L Syrup is generally safe to use. However, some may experience side effects like dry mouth, drowsiness, confusion, and ataxia (impaired balance or coordination). Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Consult your doctor before taking Cyptone L Syrup if you are pregnant. It is not recommended to take Cyptone L Syrup if you are breastfeeding. Do not take Cyptone L Syrup if you are allergic to any of its contents; you have peptic ulcers, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck obstruction, pyloroduodenal obstruction, and glaucoma. Inform your doctor before taking Cyptone L Syrup if you have asthma, hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure, intraocular (eye) pressure, or heart problems. Cyptone L Syrup may show additive effects if taken along with alcohol, CNS depressants, and anti-anxiety drugs. Consult your doctor before taking Cyptone L Syrup if you are pregnant.
