Disease/Condition Glossary
Balanitis: is a condition causing painful inflammation and redness of the penile head and foreskin, usually occurring in an uncircumcised penis. This mainly occurs due to bacterial or fungal infections, improper hygiene, or sexually transmitted diseases. Symptoms may include irritation around the penile glans, soreness and pain in the penis, difficulty in urination, and inflammation.
Trichomoniasis: is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Symptoms of a vaginal infection include itching, odour, and abnormal vaginal discharge.
Vaginal yeast infection: It is also known as candidiasis. A healthy vagina contains bacteria and some yeast cells. But when the balance of bacteria and yeast changes, the yeast cells can multiply. This causes intense itching, swelling, irritation, vaginal pain and soreness, vaginal rash, thick, white, odour-free vaginal discharge with a cottage cheese appearance, and watery vaginal discharge. Causes are antibiotic use (which causes an imbalance in natural vaginal flora), pregnancy, uncontrolled diabetes, and an impaired immune system.
Bacterial vaginosis: It is a vaginal infection caused by a change in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria. In rare cases, symptoms include abnormal vaginal discharge, itching or odour.
