About Ano Metrogyl Cream 20 gm

Ano Metrogyl Cream 20 gm belongs to a class of medications called 'anorectal preparations' primarily used in the treatment of anal fissure (small tear in the anus lining), fistula (abnormal skin opening near the anus) and piles (inflamed and swollen veins in rectum). Anorectal disorders occur at the junction of the anal canal and the rectum, including haemorrhoids, abscesses, fistula, fissures, anal itching and warts. It is characterized by the accumulation of veins at the anus with frequent mucus and bleeding while straining for stool passage.

Ano Metrogyl Cream 20 gm is a combination of three drugs, namely: Lignocaine (local anaesthetic), Metronidazole (antibiotic) and Sucralfate (protectant). Metronidazole belongs to the class of antibiotics that prevents bacterial infection caused due to exposed skin surface of the anus. Sucralfate belongs to the class of protectants that form a protective layer over the affected area of skin, thereby preventing pain, burning sensation and inflammation in the anus. Thus together Ano Metrogyl Cream 20 gm promotes healing of fissures, helps in forming new healthy skin and minimizing infection and pain around the anal canal.

Disease/Condition Glossary

Anal Fissure: It is a small cut or tears in the lining of the anus. Sometimes, the crack may be so deep that it exposes the muscle tissue underneath. It occurs mostly when passing hard or large stools, diarrhoea or chronic constipation. The crack in the skin leads to severe pain and bleeding during and after bowel movements. Anal fissure symptoms include sharp pain in the anal region during bowel movements, itching or burning sensation in the anal region, a visible tear in the skin around the anus, streaks of blood on stools, a skin tag or small lumps or skin next to the tear.

Piles: It occurs when anus tissue and vein becomes inflamed and swollen. The size of piles can vary from small to large, either found inside or outside the anus. Piles can occur due to many reasons like chronic constipation, chronic diarrhoea, pregnancy, lifting heavy weights or straining when passing a stool.

Anal Fistula: It is an abnormal connection between the inside of the anal canal and the skin around the anus resulting from an injury or surgery. Infection or inflammation can also cause a fistula to form.
