PCOD and PCOS: Cases, Symptoms, Differences and Treatment

PCOD is a common disorder; 10% of the world’s women population is affected by it.

PCOS is a serious medical condition; around

0.2 to 2.5% of the world’s women population is affected by it.

PCOD is a condition in which ovaries

Produce many immature or partially mature eggs. This can be caused by a poor lifestyle, obesity, stress and hormonal imbalances.

PCOS is a metabolic disorder and a more severe form of PCOD that can lead to anovulation, where ovaries stop releasing eggs.

PCOD doesn't affect a woman’s fertility. In this condition, a woman can still ovulate and become pregnant with a little help. With some medication, she can complete her pregnancy.

PCOS seriously affects a woman’s fertility. Due to PCOS, a woman cannot ovulate regularly, making it hard for her to get pregnant.

If she does become pregnant, there is a risk of a miscarriage, a premature birth or

Complications in her pregnancy.

PCOD doesn't have any serious complications.

PCOS has serious complications such as

type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high-blood

Pressure and endometrial cancer in later stages.

Losing weight, exercising regularly, adopting a healthy diet and avoiding junk food and processed foods have shown effective results in managing both PCOD and PCOS. Early diagnosis also helps in treatment. In case of missed or irregular periods, hair growth on your back or face, or acne, consult a gynecologist and get yourself checked.
